A message from Lisbeth Scott:
I have always had grand dreams about changing the world. Sometimes they buried me due to the size and scope of what I wanted to do. Recently I realized by taking small steps consistently, we actually cover alot of ground. So the Hope Is A Thing Foundation is born.
I provide small grants, $500 to $2000, for women and girls who have a dream and need a little help to reach it or to start the journey. I hope to grow this organization into a large project one day. For now, it begins with me.
So I hope women all over the world will take advantage of this offer. Please help to spread the word however you can. Imagine what would happen if we all took a little bit of our own money and gave it to those who don't have enough... pretty miraculous when you think about it.
When I was in 10th grade, I had a wonderful English teacher named Lee Allen. I wrote alot of poetry and prose in his class and he was hugely helpful and supportive to me. Without him and a few other great teachers, I'm not sure I would be where I am today. One day in class when we had just finished a poetry assignment on war, Mr. Allen asked me to stand up and read my poem. I turned beet red and started shaking. I was soooo shy back then... pimply and awkward, uncomfortable with myself, ashamed of so many things...
I stood up and read my poem. I only vaguely remember that it was a poem about peace, that asked questions about why people could not understand the simple concept that war and killing is not good for the world. When I finished, I stood looking at the ground. Mr. Allen said the following. "Class, take a good look at this girl. "(Silence and snickering)
He continued. "She is one of the last and most pure idealists you will ever see and have the opportunity to meet"
And so in his honor, I continue my idealism!!! Let's do it!
With love and hope,
Lisbeth Scott
